Frequently Asked Questions

When should I come in to request assistance?
Intake for the Stepping Ahead II Project is done the 1st Friday of every month. Clients are seen by appointment only. Please call 678.318.1969 to get more information and leave a message. A Stepping Ahead II representative will return your call within 48 hours.

Why do I have to call a voicemail number for assistance?
We receive hundreds of calls each week from individuals and families seeking assitance. The voicemail box allows you to leave a message 24 hours a day, at your convenience.

PLEASE NOTE: Repeated calling will not insure faster service. Phone calls will be returned within 24 to 48 hours during normal business hours (Mon-Fri from 9:00am until 5:00pm).

When will I get my check?
Checks will be available on the 4^th Thursday of each month for eligible clients that after completion of application, collection of all required documentation and completion of all required workshops and meetings. During the orientation session you will be informed of the exact date that your check will be available.

Why does it take so long to get my check?
Checks require the proper signatures and approvals before disbursement. Every effort will be made to have the checks available on the date promised.

What kind of classes do I have to attend?
Everyone is required to attend a financial literacy class. Individuals who are unemployed will be required to attend an employment workshop.

When and where are the classes held?
Dates and times for classes vary. Please review the calendar for dates and times of upcoming workshops. The classes will be held at the Zion Hill CDC. Click here for directions.

Why do I have to attend classes before I receive assistance?
The goal of the Stepping Ahead II program is to not only provide financial assistance for you but we also want to help you become more self-sufficient. The classes will provide you with some basic information on finances and employment and other helpful resources will be shared.

How often can I receive assistance?
You are eligible for financial assistance once per calendar year.

What if I complete the application but miss the classes or other meetings?
Financial assistance will only be given to those who complete the application, the workshops and any other required meetings with the case worker or family program coordinator.

I came to the class but I missed a part of it because I was late or had to leave early. Am I still eligible for assistance?
If you are late for a class or meeting, you will have an opportunity to reschedule. However if you do not complete the class and all of your meetings, you will not be eligible for financial assistance.

What other type of assistance is available?
In addition to financial assistance, the Stepping Ahead 2 Program provides referrals for housing, employment training, furniture, etc. Talk with the caseworker or program coordinator to find out more.
