Many families need financial assistance from time to time to help with rent or utility payments. The Stepping Ahead II program provides help to those in need: rent and utility. To receive assistance through Stepping Ahead II you must reside in one of the following 8 South Fulton communities: East Point, College Park, City of South Fulton, Fairburn, Hapeville, Palmetto, Union City and Chattahoochee Hills.

To receive assistance, you must call our office and dial extension #24 on the last Wednesday of the month at 12pm and please leave one message only.

Rental and Utility Assistance Program

All South Fulton County residents – East Point, College Park, Union City, City of South Fulton, Chattahoochee Hills, Palmetto, Hapeville and Fairburn; however, you must be able to demonstrate that there is a need.

You are required to submit all requested documentation and attend two workshops.

Yes, you may be eligible to receive assistance for both rent and utilities as long as it does not exceed the maximum award amount. Example: If the award is $300, you are able to apply $200 towards rent and then use the remaining balance of $100 towards your electric bill (current charges only).

To receive assistance, you must call our office and dial extension #24 on the last Wednesday of the month at 12pm and please leave one message only.

NOTE: We typically take the first 25 voicemails to fill our appointments for the month. This process is generally concluded within in the first 45 minutes from the call-in start time.

NOTE: Messages left on any voicemail other than ext. 24 requesting assistance will not be returned.

The maximum award varies monthly and is based on available funding. You will receive additional details about the amount of assistance at your appointment.

No, a referral letter does not automatically qualify you for assistance. You will need to call in on the call-in date.

We understand your frustration. The phone lines are extremely busy because there are hundreds of individuals calling in. It’s similar to calling into the radio station for free tickets to see your favorite artist; you must keep trying until you get through.

The number of people served varies from month to month based on funding provided.

Payments are made directly to the vendor after all requirements are met by the applicant. Typically, 3 weeks after call-in.

You may only receive assistance once every 12 months.

If you discover that you have a conflict with your appointment time you must call our office prior to your appointment time to inform the staff of your reason and need for rescheduling. If you do not call, you will automatically be denied.

You will have 24 hours to return our call. After that, your appointment will be given to another client. You are eligible to call in again on the next call in date.
